At Warrnambool West, we believe every student deserves to be taught in a way that works for them. Our learning support programs are built around that belief.
How we support students in the classroom
Every teacher at Warrnambool West develops and delivers a differentiated program that responds to the individual needs of their students. Through explicit teaching, problem-solving activities and regular assessment, teachers identify where each student is thriving and where they need extra support. Where needed, students have an Individual Learning Plan, developed together with their teacher and family, with goals and strategies that are worked on both at school and at home.
Learning Support
Our Learning Support staff work closely with classroom teachers to provide targeted assistance for students who need it. Support takes different forms depending on the student: in-class assistance, small group withdrawal sessions, or individual support. These groups are flexible and change as student needs change.
Allied Health and Specialist Support
Warrnambool West has access to a team of professionals who work alongside our staff to support students on their learning journey. These include a speech therapist, psychologist, and English as an Additional Language (EAL) support.
English as an Additional Language (EAL)
We welcome students from all language backgrounds. Students who are new to English can access targeted EAL support to assist with their learning. Newly arrived students may also be eligible for the New Arrivals Program, which provides intensive English language support. Contact the school office for more information about how we can support your child.
