On behalf of the Warrnambool West School Community, I would like to welcome you and your family to our website, showcasing our wonderful school. Commencing my substantive Principal position in 2025, I am fortunate to have been a part of our school community since 2020 in the Assistant Principal role. It is an exciting time ahead for our school and I consider myself to be only one part of the bigger picture that our ‘village’ has created for our students and families.
Our school is privileged to be on the land of the Peek Whurrong People who are the traditional owners of this land for thousands of years. We acknowledge and respect what they have brought to our Warrnambool West Community both past and present.
All staff are committed to the Warrnambool West Community and show pride in everything we do. We nurture our young learners with an enriching education that commences with Foundation (Prep) and moves through to Year 6. We ensure a secure, emotionally safe, and welcoming environment for all of our students. Children are engaged and challenged in wonderfully presented learning areas with classes led by a team of teaching professionals.
We take pride in and excel at promoting a caring and challenging learning environment that encourages all students to take a growing responsibility for their own learning and behaviour. Our students see themselves as learners and know that they are always supported in taking the next steps in their education. Each classroom promotes structure, consistency and all staff have a solid understanding of the research behind the Science of Learning.
Our school vision is ‘to create lifelong learners who are engaged with and have skills to contribute to both the school and their community, by having highly effective teaching, planning, support and a positive environment.’ Literacy and Numeracy are our key focus areas, with a high importance on Inquiry, Physical Education, STEM, Art, Music and our language program AUSLAN. We believe student wellbeing is a high priority and is equally prioritised with their learning. Our Tiered wellbeing framework ensures all of our students are provided with strategies and skills through a targeted system of support, enabling our students to develop their social and emotional capabilities.
At Warrnambool West Primary School there is a consistent approach to student behaviour and management, through Respectful Relationships, A Big Life and trauma informed practices. The students are supported by committed teachers who take responsibility for ALL students to provide a safe, supportive, inclusive and respectful learning environment.
We encourage the home-school partnership, believing that if our families take an active role in the education of their child, we can achieve successful outcomes for all students together.
I would love for you to come visit our school and feel our pride, collegiality and community. I am a proud Warrnambool West Primary School Principal and I am passionate about strengthening authentic community links. Together we can create a dynamic and engaging school community both inside and outside the school.
I look forward to working with you and seeing the success of our students and school continue.
Kind regards,
Karen Holdsworth
Principal
