At Warrnambool West Primary School, we encourage students to enjoy being active outdoors while learning how to protect themselves from the sun.

We are a proud SunSmart school and follow the recommendations of Cancer Council Victoria. From mid-August to the end of April, and whenever the UV Index is 3 or above, we put a range of sun protection measures in place to help keep our students safe.

How We Stay SunSmart

To reduce the risk of harmful UV exposure, we encourage students to:

• Wear their school bucket hat whenever they are outdoors during Terms 1 and 4.
• Apply SPF30+ broad-spectrum sunscreen before outdoor activities.
• Wear sun-protective clothing as part of the school uniform.
• Make use of the shaded areas around our school grounds.

Students who are not wearing an appropriate hat are asked to remain in shaded areas during outdoor play.
