The move from primary to secondary school is a big moment for kids and parents alike. At Warrnambool West, we make sure Year 6 students and their families feel informed and ready well before that transition happens.
What to expect
Early in Term 1 of Year 6, families receive information about local secondary colleges, including how to book tours and attend open days. We encourage families to visit early so your child has time to make a considered choice about where they'll head next.
Throughout the year, our Year 6 students have opportunities to connect with staff and students from local secondary colleges, so the faces and places aren't completely unfamiliar when the time comes.
Towards the end of Year 6
In the final weeks of primary school, students take part in a dedicated transition program with their chosen secondary school. This includes visits to the secondary campus as well as college staff and students coming to us here at Warrnambool West.
All students also attend the Statewide Orientation Day, held on the second-to-last Tuesday of the school year, alongside future classmates from across the state. Families receive details about this day closer to the time.
